FAQ

Following treatment, we recommended that you keep your head dry for 3-4 days and avoid sweating.

Swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms should be avoided for 28 days. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight without using sun protection, as this can cause the SMP to fade quicker.

You will be welcomed at West Midlands House reception where a member of staff will take you to the treatment room.

Your consultation appointment will last approximately an hour, any further appointments will be approximately 3 hrs with short breaks throughout.

We will offer a selection of drinks, and you will have access to toilet facilities should you require them.

During your session you will be invited to take a seat in the treatment chair, sit back, relax, listen to music or chat away.

Once your SMP treatment is completed, you will be shown the results in a mirror and if satisfied some pictures will be taken with your consent.

A few days prior to attending the clinic for your treatment, moisturise your scalp especially if you have dry skin. Don't use products on the day of treatment and don't shave your head for around 24 hours before your appointment. This will assist the artist in identifying your existing hair pattern.

Many SMP providers tend to skip patch tests or only perform them upon request. Here at Artist's Point we believe that patch tests are extremely important for all our clients.

It's true that most people have no adverse reactions, but for the very small percentage that do, it's our duty to identify those individuals before carrying out a full treatment, we care about our clients.

We will discuss with you where you want your patch test to be located. We will recommend an area and show you the results in the mirror.

We guarantee your treatment by offering a 12 month FREE ‘top up’ or make tweaks to the finished product should you wish.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical hair tattoo. Natural looking pigments are applied to the dermal layer of the scalp, giving the appearance of a close shaved hairstyle on a balding head or to add density to thinning hair.

The treatment can be used to conceal accident, medical and cosmetic head scars from a hair transplant, thinning hair or to treat hair loss through conditions, such as Pattern Baldness or Alopecia.

Scalp Micropigmentation treatment is often referred to as SMP, a hair tattoo or scalp tattoo.

The treatment is done in a gradual layering process, building density giving a natural effect. The whole treatment typically takes 3-4 sessions to complete.

Following the initial consultation (either in person or by telephone), the total SMP treatment will take between 3-4 sessions to complete. Each session will last approximately three hours. The first sitting will be the longest, during this session we design your new hair line and apply the first layer of pigment. Following this, we will add more density during each session. Finally we will complete your new look, adding further density and blending in to your existing hair.

Each session of SMP will last approximately 3 hours.

Clients will need to wait a minimum of 7 days following your first procedure. For best results, we recommend 2 weeks between session 2, 3 & 4.

On completion of your final treatment, you should expect the results to last for years. Over a period of time, a client may gradually begin to notice a slight lightening of the treatment, this can be accelerated from excessive sun exposure. This fading is normal, clients can undergo a “touch up” session to restore any fading. We offer reduced touch up treatments for returning clients.

Yes. Treatments can be offered early evenings and weekends so that clients do not have to take time off from work.

Yes, all the shades we use for SMP are a shade of grey. Therefore, for clients with grey hair we will dilute the pigment accordingly to match the clients hair colour and skin tone. Some clients have a mix of grey and white referred to as ‘Salt & Pepper’.

SMP has developed over the years and has become such an effective and popular hair loss solution. We aim on creating only natural and realistic results to suit the individual. We specialise in the faded hair line, keeping it looking natural.

The SMP needle does not go in as deep as a conventional tattoo, so it’s not truly comparable. In some areas of the scalp it may feel more uncomfortable, for example near the temple, the front of the head where the skin is softer, but it’s certainly not unbearable.

Yes, SMP is very safe. The treatment is done is a hygienically clean clinic. Your safety is paramount and in order for us to get our license from the Local Authority, we follow a very strict hygiene routine.

All needles and waste are disposed correctly following the treatment, these are collected under our clinical waste contract. All equipment is cleaned and sterilised following each treatment, and the area is prepared ready for the next client. The clinic is cleaned very regularly and all our treatments are carried out by an experienced, fully certified, licensed and insured SMP technician with the highest of standards.

Immediately following SMP treatment you are likely to have some redness to the scalp, we may apply a calming solution to the scalp to help this subside. Redness should last no more than 48hrs.

Individuals who have known medical conditions that may affect them are recommended to consult their doctors before treatment.

You will be given a guide following your treatment, we recommend that you don't get your head wet or sweat for at least three days after SMP treatment. Washing or showering prevents the scalp from healing and can wash out the pigment.

Sweating slows down the healing process, you must avoid intense training for at least 7 days following the treatment. Lighter training is fine, providing its not excessive and you do not break a sweat.

We recommend you avoid chlorinated swimming pools, the use of saunas, steam rooms, and tanning beds during and for 28 days after your SMP treatment.

No. SMP is a non-invasive procedure, therefore, you could go back to work on the same day. You may experience a bit of redness that will subside within 24-48 hrs. A light cap can be worn to cover the head for this period if preferred or if the nature of the work is in an environment that is not suitable to be exposed too.

No. On your first SMP session, we work with you to design your new natural hair line. We will then treat all areas required whilst blending it into the existing hair. The first session will be a light covering in the required areas and the colour of the pigment will lighten in the following days.

During the second session, we will add more density which will give more depth to the look. The third and fourth session will blend between the hair and SMP giving an overall natural appearance.

Trust the full procedure!
